EMDR Therapy
Healing Trauma and Emotional Distress with EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based
psychotherapy approach that helps people heal from the emotional distress connected
to traumatic or overwhelming life experiences. EMDR supports the brain’s natural ability
to process and integrate memories so they no longer feel stuck or emotionally
overwhelming.
Rather than focusing on detailed retelling of painful experiences, EMDR works by
helping the nervous system reprocess memories in a way that reduces their emotional
intensity. Many clients find that memories become less distressing and that negative
beliefs about themselves begin to shift.
How EMDR Works
EMDR therapy follows a structured, eight-phase approach designed to prioritize safety,
preparation, and lasting change. During sessions, you will briefly focus on a specific
memory or experience while engaging in bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye
movements, tapping, or tones.
This process helps the brain reprocess unresolved memories so they can be stored in a
more adaptive, less distressing way. The goal is not to erase memories, but to allow you
to remember them without feeling emotionally flooded or physically activated.
What EMDR Can Help With
EMDR is effective for a wide range of concerns, including:
⇒Trauma and PTSD
⇒Anxiety, panic, and phobias
⇒Depression and low self-worth
⇒Grief and loss
⇒Chronic stress and burnout
⇒Performance or test anxiety

Negative self-beliefs and emotional blocks
EMDR can be helpful for both single-event experiences and more complex or long-standing patterns.
What to Expect in EMDR Therapy
⇒Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes
⇒Treatment begins with building coping skills and emotional regulation tools
⇒Trauma processing occurs only when you feel ready
⇒Therapy moves at your pace, with ongoing collaboration and support
⇒EMDR may be used on its own or integrated with other therapeutic approaches,
depending on your needs.
